Weston Pool Maintenance Experts Offer These Tips

Tips for Keeping Your Pool Clean and Safe From Weston’s Pool Maintenance Experts
Whether you hire a pool maintenance company or do it your self it’s important to understand what it takes to keep your pool clean and safe. Here are a few tips from the experts:
  1. Skimming. Stuff happens…every day. Stuff floats down from trees, insects drop in for a quick drink and drown, windblown debris from humans (your family and guests) scatter over the pool surface and it all needs to be skimmed off. Debris left on the surface will eventually sink making the cleanup even more time consuming. Skim every day.
  2. Water level. The water level in your pool will vacillate depending on the weather and pool use. Weston's summer showers and thunderstorms will obviously add water while high temperatures and kids doing cannonballs will evaporate and splash water out of the pool. Ideally the water level should be half way up the opening of your skimmer. You can add water with a garden hose or decrease the level with a submergible pump rented from a home improvement store. Always check your chemical levels after making adjustments.
  3. Chemical balance. Ideally the water in your pool should be crystal clear and free of scent. If it isn't you most likely have a chemical imbalance that needs to be corrected. The CDC recommends that you test the water for 6 chemical levels at least once per week. DIY tests are available at any pool store and are very easy to use. Keeping the chemicals in your pool balanced is essential not only in the maintenance of your pool but the safety and maximum enjoyment of you and your family. Take the time to test!
  4. Strainer Baskets and Filters. Clean strainer baskets and filters promote efficient water circulation and reduces the amount of chlorine required. Check the strainer baskets at least weekly and pump filters when the difference in flow between the pressure gauge and flow meter reaches 10 to 15 lbs. per square inch.
  5. Schedule a Professional Inspection. The smart Weston homeowner has their air conditioner inspected and serviced once a year and the same should hold true for the homeowner who has a pool. Get a professional once over to ensure your investment is getting the care it needs.
Of course there are more tasks involved in good pool maintenance like brushing walls, vacuuming and deck washing but we wanted to give you an idea of the time commitment required to keep your pool in good shape.
